The mobile performance management process needs a tune-up. Developers and testers can’t control connectivity, but can architect, code and test mobile apps for optimal performance.
As someone who lives and breathes application performance, and who passionately hates being made to wait more than 3 seconds (ADHD anyone), it’s always mindblowing to me that people would ship a production app without thoroughly testing its performance (and the user experience) under different network, lighting, platform conditions etc.
This is a great article that discusses these issues, and makes the case for the business leaders to put pressure on developers to factor in performance.
Those APM practitioners have a duty to work with those business leaders to model the customer and financial impact of poor performance to explore whether there is a case for getting serious about performance by design.
